What
is an Enrolled Agent?
Enrolled
Agents are
the only tax professionals certified and licensed by the IRS
to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Others like CPA's
or attorneys are certified by their own states.
The
history of Enrolled
Agents dates
back to 1884 when congress authorized the
profession.
Because Enrolled
Agents are
licensed by the Federal Government, not the states, they can
practice anywhere in the United States.
Unlike CPA's or
attorneys, Enrolled
Agents always
specialize in taxation.
Enrolled
Agents can
prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships and
corporations, etc.
Enrolled
Agents represent
over 10 million individuals and businesses throughout the
United States.
Enrolled
Agents have
the technical skill, higher earnings potential, better
prestige and access to networking and professional tax
organizations.
Enrolled
Agent candidates
must pass a two-day four-part comprehensive nationwide
examination.
There are no education or experience
requirements to take the Enrolled
Agents examination.
There
is no apprenticeship after passing the examinations to become
an Enrolled
Agent.
